Emmanuel Sarabwe’s professional career and research experience are linked to the implementation of community-based sociotherapy (CBS) in Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo and in Congolese refugee settlements in Rwanda and Uganda. Emmanuel Sarabwe has been one among the founding team members of the CBS approach in Rwanda in 2005 and is currently working as a Head of Programs at Community Based Sociotherapy Rwanda (CBS Rwanda).

As part of his work at CBS Rwanda, Emmanuel Sarabwe conducted different qualitative studies on the contribution of community-based sociotherapy to different aspects of life, including marital conflict in post-genocide Rwanda, improving mental health of Congolese refugees in Rwanda and on processes of forgiveness.

Emmanuel Sarabwe holds a Master (MA) in Social Work and Social Administration from the Uganda Christian University in Uganda and a second MA in Human Rights Gender and Conflict in Social Justice Perspective from the International Institute of Social Sciences (ISS) in the Netherlands. Currently he is pursuing his PhD at the Center for the Study of the Afterlife of Violence and the Reparative Quest (AVReQ), Stellenbosch University, South Africa. His PhD research focuses on the meaning of forgiveness among genocide survivors and perpetrators in post-genocide Rwanda.
